Tournament Rules:

Games can start up to 20 minutes early

3 - 4 Teams

Round Robin Play:

• 2 Points for a win (Northshire 16U Boys 1.5 Points)
• 1 Point for a tie (Northshire 16U Boys .75 Points)

Tie Breakers used to determine Consolation and Championship teams in order until the tie is broken. For a tie with three or more teams, proceed through the following steps until one team is eliminated, then return to step one for remaining teams.

1. Head to Head results (if applicable)
2. Goal Differential
3. Fewest Penalty Minutes (Overall games)
4. Most period points (The team scoring the most goals in each period shall be awarded one (1) point for the period. Periods with tied scoring shall give each team one-half (.5) points).
5. Most game wins
6. Fewest goals allowed.
7. Quickest first goal.

Hybrid USA Hockey/VT High School Rules

• Team can tag up on and off sides
• Teams can ice the puck when short handed

Length of Period:  

18U Boys and 19U Girls - 15 minutes stoppage time

16U Boys regular games, 12 minutes for regular games, 15 minutes for the championship game

Length of Penalty:  Minor 2:00, Double Minor 4:00, Major 5:00, Misconduct 10:00

Time out: One time out, 30 seconds

Warm Up Time: 3 Minutes

No overtime for Regular Tournament Games, they will end with a tie

Mercy Rule: 6 or more goal differential will lead to “running time” during the 3rd period. When the score becomes 5 or less, then it will go back to “stoppage time.”

Championship Game: If a championship game is tied at the end of regulation, there will be a 5 minute, OT period.  If tied after this, there will then be a 5 minute 3 v 3 2nd OT.  If tied after this, a 3 player shootout. If still tied after 3 shooters, each team will then send 1 shooter until there is a winner.  No player can shoot twice unless every skaters has shot at least once.

2nd Annual Northshire Hockey Winter Warmup Tournament

November 10 – 12, 2023

Manchester Vermont

Welcome to the 2023 Northshire Hockey Winter Warmup tournament organized by the Northshire Hockey Association.  The home team will feature split season teams of local Vermont varsity high school hockey players getting ready for their season. 

The Winter Warmup is intended for Tier 3, A level teams.  There will be 3 divisions, each with 4 teams.  The divisions are:

18U Boys – Tier III, A level

19U Girls - Tier III, A level

16U Boys – Tier III, A level

All games are played at Riley Rink.   Manchester Vermont has several lodging options from budget-friendly hotels to 4-star resorts and spas. We look forward to hosting your team this coming season!

Tournament Details:

3 game guarantee

Games start Friday afternoon, Championships for each division on Sunday (See draft schedule below)

No Gate Fees

Entry Fees $800 per team

Teams must be USA Hockey Registered

Each game will be an hour and fifteen minutes and feature 2, 15-minute stop time periods and a running time 3rd period based on the amount of ice time available at the end of the second period.
