Attack the Offensive Zone Wide

One emphasis item so far this year has been how we should enter the zone. Players have heard the coaches emphasize attacking the blue line wide and then using speed to attack the zone. Pay attention to: 1. How the player sets up the move to the outside by going to the center at middle of the ice 2. Attacking with speed 3. Going around the player or going around the net or delaying 4. Punch move - must start with speed (moving our feet) The advantage to delaying is allows the other players on our team to enter the zone and be part of the play.

VT Black Bear Game Goals Against

Bulldogs,

We have been working in practice this week on defensive zone coverage and a defensive system called box plus one.  Below is a video on this defensive structure.

Also, special thanks to Avi Evan for pulling video and analysis of our 4 goals against the Black Bears Tier 2 team.  We will be playing them again this weekend in a double header.  Please take a look and try to see how our defense broke down and could we defend differently.

Coach Rich

Goal Against #1

goal 1 lost the puck at mid ice; 2v1 they pass and score.

Goal Against #2

goal 2 we had no control with the puck in the offensive zone; both defenders went behind the net; we let them have too many opportunities.

Goal Against #3

goal 3 we could not clear the puck; we let them have too many opportunities; gave it back to their defenders they pass and the goalie was screened and they score.

Goal Against #4

goal 4 we must win the faceoff and get it back to our defenders; we should not play them behind the net unless completely necessary; do not let them rap around.
